We aim to address two needs with this project:
- The need for novel diagnostic tools and innovative therapy approaches for sepsis
The development of extracorporeal blood purification methods to modulate inflammatory mediators in sepsis will be in the focus of our work, but we plan to broaden our approach and to generate new knowledge on pathophysiology, potential targets for therapy, markers and diagnostics, and optimized timing of therapeutic intervention in sepsis.
- The need for biocompatible blood purification systems
Biocompatibility of blood purification systems is crucial for their safe clinical application. We will use established methods and develop new methods to assess and optimize the blood compatibility of existing blood purification systems and we will develop cell culture models to support evaluation of biocompatibility in the pre-clinical development.
