Early detection and timely therapeutic intervention are crucial for improved outcome of patients with sepsis. Given the extreme heterogeneity of septic patients, analysis of the inflammatory profile is of importance to identify the optimal time window for application of supportive therapy. Likewise, tests to monitor profiles of inflammatory markers are needed to monitor therapy effects.
