Aims
We aim to address two needs with this project:
-
The need for novel diagnostic tools and innovative therapy approaches for sepsis
The application of extracorporeal approaches to modulate inflammatory mediators in sepsis will be a focus of our work, but we plan to broaden our approach and to generate new knowledge on the pathophysiology of sepsis, potential targets for therapy, as well as optimized timing of therapeutic intervention in sepsis. -
The need for blood compatible extracorporeal systems
Blood compatibility is crucial for the safe clinical application of extracorporeal therapies. We will use established methods and develop new methods to assess and optimize the blood compatibility of existing blood purification systems and we will develop cell culture models to support evaluation of blood compatibility in the pre-clinical development.
